The benefit of studying in Semarang State University (Unnes) is that the living fee is cheaper, compared to any other areas. For example, average price of a boarding house is IDR 1.000,000 to IDR 2,500,000 per semester. You will live another person you might not know or meet before in your life in the same room. Usually boys will be with boys and girls will be with girls. No couples are allowed in this kind of boarding house. As the prices of food are similar one food stall to another around campus. Students usually spend IDR 100,000 to IDR 300,000 per week for their cost of living. The cost includes food, petrol (for motor bikers) and other activities.

Some of the students prefer to rent a house with friends or classmates they already. The normal price of the house they choose will be from IDR 7,000,000 to IDR 12,000,000 per year. The houses are usually half furnished and are able to have four to five tenants.
